National Solar Power Partners LLC based in Melbourne, Florida, has chosen modules supplied by the German company Solar World AG for over 700 MW worth of solar power projects in the state. The company chose Solar World after touring their factory in Oregon and the three Florida projects will see millions of PV modules installed in 20 MW segments, each of which will cover 80 hectares of land. The first project, worth 200 MW, will be built later this year in Hardee County and will consist of over 100,000 solar panels. The other two projects consist of a 400 MW installation in Gadsden County and a 100 MW installation in Liberty County. All three plants will be designed, built and operated by construction company Hensel Phelps based in Greeley, Colorado, the company that rebuilt the Pentagon after 9/11.
Solar World is a vertically integrated solar company that employs around 3,300 people worldwide. It has major production plants at Hillsboro, Oregon and Freiburg, Germany. National Solar Power is funding the Florida projects through a subsidiary company that it set up specially for the purpose, Green Infrastructure Partners LLC. The subsidiary company will offer institutions and investors a platform for participation in the US transition to a renewable future and is managed and advised by another National Solar Power subsidiary, Solar Capital Management. National Solar has more than 30 years experience in the renewable industry and is considered to be a market leader in utility-scale solar power plant.
National Solar Power's CEO James Scrivener said: "We're very excited about this partnership, which is a great cultural fit between our companies. We are committed to helping make the United States the world leader in renewable energy, and this partnership gives us the building blocks to produce clean energy domestically. Best of all, we will be using U.S. technology that will create thousands of jobs for Americans and help ensure U.S. energy security and independence."
Solar World Americas President, Kevin Kilkelly, added: "SolarWorld looks forward to being a partner in this far-reaching and visionary project. National Solar Power is a recognized innovator, and its projects in Florida are truly exciting developments in the renewable-energy supply for our nation."
